Living in Alignment: The Missing Key to Achieving Your Goals – Thrive with Rebecca Blog on aligning habits with purpose

The alarm went off at 4:30 am this morning, as usual. My eyes popped open, and my brain instantly started making a “to-do” list. I’m excited — buzzing with ideas for my business and challenges I want to tackle. I’m living my purpose, and I feel energized by the possibilities ahead.

But did I jump out of bed, ready to seize the day? Nope. My brain was eager, but my body felt like it had been hit by a truck.  Here’s the truth: I’ve pushed my body hard for years. I’ve ignored hunger, powered through exhaustion, and dismissed aches and pains. It’s something I learned in childhood — my younger brother is the same way.

As I sat at my desk yesterday, my back ached, my shoulders felt tight, and my energy waned as the hours ticked by. I ignored it, pushing through as always, only to feel utterly drained by dinnertime. That moment hit me: how can I show up fully for my family, my work, or even myself if I’m not physically at my best?

Does this sound familiar? Have you ever felt like you know what to do but just can’t seem to do it?  For me, taking care of myself by eating better and being more physically active has been on repeat in my mind and in my discussions with my husband for months.  The important truth: setting goals isn’t enough.  Any goal can feel overwhelming, especially when life is already full.

The Turning Point: Aligning Goals with Purpose

The new year is a perfect time to reflect, refocus, and reconnect with your purpose. It’s not just about setting goals but setting aligned goals—ones that energize you and bring you closer to the life you truly want.

For me, my purpose is clear:
"To show up with authenticity, purpose, and wholeheartedness, empowering myself, my family, my community, and those I serve to grow, thrive, and live in alignment with their true selves."

But how can I live my purpose when my daily habits are working against me? My poor eating habits and sitting at a desk all day drain my energy physically and emotionally and prevent me from showing up fully for the things that matter most: my family, my community, and the work I feel called to do.

When I reconnect my goals to my purpose, the shift is powerful. Eating healthier and caring for my body isn’t just about hitting a number on the scale. It’s about living in alignment with my purpose so I can show up fully and wholeheartedly — for myself and everyone I serve.

One Small Step

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start small. For me, it’s as simple as setting a timer to move for 10 minutes every hour. It’s a small step, but even small steps create momentum.

Remember, aligned goals are the key to overcoming obstacles and staying motivated. Let’s make this year the one where we show up fully, with energy and intention, for ourselves and those we love.

A Final Encouragement

If you’re feeling the weight of your goals, or even the weight of life, remember, you’re not alone. Every step toward living in alignment with your purpose, no matter how small, is progress worth celebrating. This is the year we take those steps — together — to live with purpose, energy, and intention.

Stay tuned for next week’s post, where I’ll break this goal into actionable steps.
